My Big Idea

“I want to say how much we appreciated and enjoyed today. My son has Asperger’s and he got so much out of it. Your team were incredibly helpful and the activities were so exciting. Our daughter is younger and really enjoyed the sensory area as well as the more techy activities.” - Parent

We work within communities, partnering with local organisations, to codesign programmes that ignite the imaginations of children, families and caregivers.  Our projects help to create resilient communities that are more inclusive and transformative for children and young people by providing opportunities around digital literacy, creative thinking, problem solving and building aspirations together. Our programmes empower children and young people to reimagine their future and shape a better world, but this cannot happen in a vacuum. We partner with community hubs to cocreate meaningful opportunities around digital literacy, creative thinking and problem solving, for children to enjoy in their local area, alongside their friends and families, supported and empowered by local volunteers. We support partner organisations with training, resources and materials to be able to set up and continue to deliver sustainable creative programming for children and their communities.

My Big Idea offers a day of imagination for children and their care givers to play, learn, and invent together through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths-based (STEAM) workshops.

Each event is co-created with a community hub partner and is themed around community + a key learning topic, such as literacy, technology, or environmental issues. Children take part in workshops led by industry experts and supported by local volunteers. The activities support the development of key skills, and their learning is acknowledged with a certificate and activities to continue the creativity at home.

In 2023, the Institute of Imagination delivered My Big Idea events in Newham and Lambeth with 379 people attending.
