The Power of Play

“We couldn’t wish for a better partner than the iOi. Their drive, passion and creativity are fundamental to our work, enabling us to engage more children and create an even greater impact. As a result, children are growing more confident, finding their voice, building new skills, and starting to dream bigger about their futures.”  Sarah Macshane, Social Responsibility UK, The LEGO Group.

The LEGO Group, along with Save the Children UK, Young V&A, EasyPeasy and the Institute of Imagination, have announced the launch of their Power of Play initiative; a collective partnership which aims to improve access to quality Learning through Play opportunities for children across the Borough of Tower Hamlets.

This unique borough-wide initiative draws on the expertise of each organisation to create a unified step change in harnessing the power of play to promote children’s wellbeing, essential skills such as creativity, confidence and communication as well as future potential. It will use a three-pronged approach within homes, schools and across the community, deliberately working in close collaboration with the local community to ensure play opportunities are meaningful and locally relevant. The Power of Play programme will also work together to develop parents, carers and educators’ confidence to use play to strengthen children’s learning.

In Year 1, The Institute Of Imagination designed and delivered creative curriculum enrichment across 40 schools in Tower Hamlets. These imaginative, playful experiences sought to inspire both children and educators on the power of Learning through Play to promote children’s learning outcomes and develop a child-friendly and engaging school curriculum for the future. In year 2 of the programme, The Institute of Imagination has become the consortium lead for The Power of Play. The focus of the activity is on building caregivers confidence in actively engaging their children in Learning Through Play experiences through co-designed play packs and caregiver led events.
